Qualcomm Launches New Data Transfer Module for Remote Tachograph Download Service

Remote Digital Tachograph and Driver Card Archiving to Help Increase Efficiency and Reduce Operational Costs

WAALRE, The Netherlands — September 1, 2010 — Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) and a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced the launch of the Remote Tachograph Download Service.  This new service is integrated with the OmniExpress™ fleet management system, and it enables fleet managers to remotely and securely download driver data from digital mass memory tachographs and their inserted driver cards to the back-office.  The Remote Tachograph Download Service replaces manual and time-consuming in-cab downloads with a unique over-the-air data transfer, helping to reduce operating costs, improve process efficiency, increase revenues and enhance customer service. The service will be commercially available later this month.

With the Remote Tachograph Download Service, drivers will no longer need to be involved in the data download process as authorized fleet managers will be able to download data anytime and anywhere using the company smart card.  This driver information is accessible through the FleetVisor™ Web Portal for fleet managers in the transport company’s back-office. The security verification can be managed in the back-office, and the Remote Tachograph Download Service is equipped with an authentication algorithm to ensure that the data is protected.

The Remote Tachograph Download Service, which works in combination with the Continental VDO digital tachograph, can assist fleet managers in ensuring compliance with the European Union’s data archiving requirements.  The service also supports the optional TIS-Web®, Continental’s Web-based data evaluation program, and be available as part of “Blue & Me Fleet,” the state-of-the-art vehicle utilisation and planning management tool offered by Iveco and Qualcomm to help control vehicle operating costs.

“Qualcomm is committed to delivering advanced wireless applications and services to support our transportation customers in improving efficiency and reducing operational costs while ensuring compliance with European Union regulations,” said Bill Karnazes, managing director for Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe.  “The new Remote Tachograph Download Service is an integrated component of Qualcomm’s end-to-end fleet management solutions, which are designed to empower back-office personnel with increased flexibility, efficiency and operational control.”

The features and benefits of the Remote Tachograph Download Service include:
• Secure data download from vehicle to back-office
• Increased efficiency by replacing the time-consuming manual method with remote download
• Easier compliance with EU regulations
• Archiving and back-up of the tachograph and driver card data in the Qualcomm Network Management Center
• Integration of partner solutions with Continental and Iveco
• Support of the tachograph data and optional TIS Web analysis tool
• Company card does not need to leave the back-office
• No driver activity or involvement is needed to enable remote downloading
• Supports any brand of remote download compatible digital tachographs
