Nijman / Zeetank to equip entire fleet with MCP200
All vehicles of Nijman / Zeetank International Logistic Group in Europe will soon be equipped with Qualcomm’s new MCP200 on-board computer. The logistics service provider in the transport and distribution of petrochemical products, fuel and glass recently reached agreement with Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe on fitting this latest, state-of-the-art on-board computer, which is already operational in the first Nijman / Zeetank vehicles.
Nijman / Zeetank decided on Qualcomm and the MCP200 because of the many extra functionalities the on-board computer offers, such as in-cab navigation, driver card download and mass memory download of the digital tachograph. The MCP200 also makes it possible to keep tighter control on fuel consumption and monitor driver behaviour. Other important functionalities which tipped the balance for Nijman / Zeetank are the unique text-to-speech capabilities that MCP200 offers as a mobile workplace in the driver’s cab. The Mobile Computer Platform 200, with its large colour touch-screen display and sliding keyboard, allows drivers to monitor their driving, rest and working times as well as ensuring they comply with the Working Time Directive.
The new on-board computer records the driver hours which are then used as input to process the salary for the different countries, and is fully integrated in the company’s transport management system.
Apart from the Netherlands, Nijman / Zeeland has branches in England and Poland. Because of its international operations, the company also has international requirements for the quality of its on-board computer. The MCP200 benefits from the most advanced communication technologies such as GPRS, UMTS, Wifi and Satellite communication. Managing Director Kees van Noordt of Nijman Zeetank Logistic Group says: ‘The various communication options that Qualcomm offers with its new on-board computer were what convinced us to choose the MCP200. For example, the on-board computer is fitted with WiFi as standard, which gives us all kinds of exciting possibilities in the future for sharing data remotely with a company network.’
By purchasing the MCP200, Nijman / Zeetank also fulfils the latest requirements that the company’s clients, including several major chemical and petrochemical companies, now expect from their logistics service providers. Delivery times, cargo safety and cost control are all crucial to clients, and so transport and logistics companies have to continue optimising their customer service to the maximum. In order to manage their vehicles, cargos and drivers even more efficiently, they must have the most sophisticated remote communication solutions available to them. That is why the MCP200 is such an exciting innovation in mobile communications technology.
