Qualcomm Announces European Launch of Trailer Tracks 200
— For Carriers Seeking Maximum Return on Investment, Enhanced Asset and Cargo Security and Improved Trailer Utilization —
Waalre, The Netherlands — February 7, 2011 — Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) and a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced the launch of the Trailer Tracks 200 (TT200) solution in Europe. TT200 is an innovative, stand-alone platform that automatically monitors both tethered and untethered trailers independent of a truck-based telematics system.
TT200 provides carriers access to timely information about load status and trailer visibility, which is critical in maximizing operational efficiency and improving overall fleet management. Critical information delivered by TT200,includes a map and address or location, the nearest city, the speed and route of the trailer and trailer connect/disconnect notification. TT200 operates in a variety of situations, including whether or not the trailer is connected to the truck, when a trailer is connected to a truck that does not have a telematics system on board and when trailers are on the road or parked. This enables dispatchers to continue to receive information when the trailer is taken over by a sub-contractor.
TT200 delivers near real-time information about the load status and location of one or a group of trailers through Qualcomm’s FleetVisor™ web portal for European customers. By leveraging the same web portal environment as Qualcomm’s OmniExpress™ and Mobile Computing Platform 200 (MCP200) hardware platforms, customers in Europe will benefit from future host development and be able to manage all their assets through one single web portal.
The benefits of TT200 include:
• Improved customer service with accurate and timely reports on location of their load
• When already using a Qualcomm telematics solution, dispatchers can access all assets, both trucks and trailers, through a single interface, the FleetVisor web portal
• Enhanced operational planning based on actual locations
• Increased asset and cargo security
• Optimized asset utilization and trailer pool inventory
• Reduced fuel costs and driver time looking for a trailer
TT200’s rugged design, with an IP69K protection index, means that it is resistant to vibrations, shocks, dust, humidity and severe weather conditions. Because of its compact size, TT200 can be concealed on the trailer’s chassis, keeping it away from potential hazards. TT200 is equipped with its own rechargeable battery, providing power supply for up to 30 days when the trailer is parked, and recharges when the trailer is connected to the truck.
“Trailer Tracks 200 has been designed for transport companies of any size that need to improve their trailer management capabilities,” explains Bill Karnazes, managing director of Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe. “With TT200, dispatchers have a solution that provides full visibility to all their trailers, while also improving driver and tractor productivity and optimizing trailer inventory pools.”
TT200 has already been adopted by PØ Scandex, a leader in trade and shipping between France and Scandinavia and a client of Qualcomm since 1990. PØ Scandex was involved in the successful beta tests of the solution in Europe, and as a result, the company recently became Qualcomm’s first TT200 customer in Europe. PØ Scandex recently received the Top Transport Innovation award at the 18th Top Transport Europe event in Marseille, France for its innovative approach to trailer management based on Qualcomm’s TT200 solution, and is now equipping its entire fleet of 300 trailers with TT200.
