Spanish group F.Ramos implements Qualcomm’s OmniExpress system to improve the management of its food fleet

F.Ramos will equip its fleet of road tankers with this on-board management technology, enabling key information on vehicle location, driver behaviour and fuel consumption to be remotely downloaded in real time.

Madrid, 25 May 2010 — Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe, the leading supplier of wireless systems and services for the logistics and transport industry, and F.Ramos, a Spanish food transport group based in Reus (Tarragona), have signed an agreement to implement Qualcomm’s OmniExpress solution throughout F.Ramos’ entire fleet of road tankers. As part of the agreement, F.Ramos will fit a total of 48 long haul liquid food transport vehicles with on-board OmniExpress computers during the project’s first phase. This will enable the digital tachographs of these vehicles to be downloaded automatically and to remotely track all the activities of its drivers and loads. The company subsequently plans to install the system in other vehicles in France and Hungary.

Qualcomm’s OmniExpress system gathers key data on vehicle location, driver behaviour and fuel consumption and transmits it to Qualcomm's management centre via a mobile network. Once transmitted, the data is available to the company via a single interface and application on the FleetVisor platform for subsequent analysis and integration into its systems.
As Ignacio Ramos, F.Ramos Purchasing Manager, points out, “for years we have been studying how to improve the efficiency of our shipments and offer better service to our customers. With long-haul international shipments in particular, it is vital to control the fuel consumption of every vehicle in order to reduce the vehicles’ operating costs. We believe that we are going to be able to significantly improve this ratio with the OmniExpress system.”
“It was essential for us to find a partner like Qualcomm, a specialist in international fleet management and long-haul transport, to understand our business and requirements. The advice and support they provided us – even before becoming their customer – has also been a key factor in our decision,” concludes Ramos.

Javier Cañestro, Senior Regional Sales Manager of Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe: “For Qualcomm, this project is of particular importance because it helps us to reassert the role of our technology even during extremely challenging economic times such as now. This is why we are convinced that in the face of this highly broad based crisis, a dramatic fall in demand and constantly escalating oil prices, fleet management systems are the most effective solution and the most profitable investment a transport company can currently make.”
