FIRST-CLASS QUALITY SERVICE AT A CRITICAL TIME FOR THE MARKET
The Spanish food transport group, F. Ramos, based in Reus (Tarragona) has taken a huge step forward in modernising its food fleet by fitting a total of 48 long-haul vehicles with on-board OmniExpress computers. This will enable operators to automatically download digital tachographs from these vehicles and, ultimately, remotely track all of their operations.
The improvements with regard to efficiency are clear to see, as Ignacio Ramos, the group’s Purchasing Manager, points out, “We have been investigating how to improve the efficiency of our shipments and offer a better service to our customers for years, especially for long-haul international shipments, for which control of the fuel consumption of every vehicle is vital to reducing operating costs. We believe that we are going to be able to significantly improve this ratio with the OmniExpress system.”
Qualcomm’s OmniExpress system compiles key data on vehicle locations, driver behaviour and fuel consumption and transmits this to Qualcomm's management centre via a mobile network. Once transmitted, the data is available to the company via a single interface and application on the FleetVisor platform for subsequent analysis and integration into its systems.
“For us, it was essential to find a partner like Qualcomm, a specialist in international fleet management and long-haul shipments, to understand our business and requirements. The advice and support they provided us – even before becoming their customer – was also a key factor in our decision,” concludes Ramos.
Javier Cañestro, Senior Regional Sales Manager of Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe explains, “For Qualcomm, this project is of particular importance because it helps us to reassert the role of our technology even during extremely challenging economic times such as these. This is why we are convinced that in the face of this highly broad-based crisis – with a dramatic fall in demand and constantly escalating oil prices – fleet management systems are the most effective solution and the most profitable investment a transport company can make at this time.”
