Real-time access to fleet data and information

“Qualcomm’s technology enables us to achieve significant improvements in route and itinerary management and offers substantial benefits in day-to-day management and customer service.”
José Ramón Mazo, Managing Director

One of Spain’s longest standing operators, Grupo Transportes Mazo has been in business since the 1930s and has established itself as the leading standard in refrigerated road transport across Spain and Europe. In today’s highly competitive environment, the company has decided to launch an ambitious project to modernise its management systems, including fitting its current 180-vehicle fleet with Qualcomm’s OmniExpress and MCP 200 systems. The initiative also involves the medium-term integration of these systems with the company’s internal operations management (ERP) systems, facilitating improved management of vehicles, driving times, delivery schedules and driver remuneration.

Complementing this ambitious project, the OmniExpress systems are complete with control modules for refrigerated trailers and a remote download function for tachograph data – yet another innovative technology launched this year by Qualcomm. This will later be integrated with Transkal, i.e. the management software used by the company. The MCP 200 systems offer real-time access to data on vehicles, drivers, loads and trailers, which is vital for increasing the efficiency of all related operations.

The first project phase will be completed next January, after which work will begin on the integration with Grupo Transportes Mazo’s internal infrastructure.

As the Managing Director of Grupo Transportes Mazo, José Ramón Mazo, stated, "Qualcomm's OmniExpress system will be extremely beneficial to our business. We selected it based on three positive factors: it is a complete and reliable state-of-the-art system, the costs fit our budget, and it has received positive reviews from other customers.”

Mazo explained that “using these technologies will facilitate the tracking and control of every vehicle and its load, fortnightly driving times, driver location (at all times}, and appropriate fuel consumption levels. It enables us to achieve significant improvements in route and itinerary management and offers substantial benefits in day-to-day management and customer service.”

The solution when operationalised will provide drivers with information on their schedules, routes and break times. Moreover, the integration of the systems also makes it possible to effect payments and scan/send documents from the vehicle’s cab.

Javier Cañestro, Senior Regional Sales Manager of Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe, states, “This project is of tremendous importance for Qualcomm. It not only involves the implementation of new equipment, but also its integration with the systems and programs regularly used by customers in day-to-day operations. This simply underscores the versatility of our technology and how it can be tailored to suit the circumstances of any operator."
