EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR A SPANISH FIRM WITH MORE THAN A 40 YEAR TRACK RECORD
Transportes Lara S.A. is one of the few transport companies in Spain with more than 40 years’ of experience in the liquid foodstuffs transport sector. Having used Qualcomm’s EutelTRACS platform since 1996, the firm recently upgraded the system with a new – localised – traffic module, which increases the efficiency of transport movements by avoiding the most problematic driving routes.
According to CEO José Manuel Lara, “This new traffic module ideally complements our EutelTRACS platform. It not only enables us to determine the location and status of all our vehicles at all times, it also plots the most efficient driving route bearing in mind traffic conditions. The module enables us to reduce both fuel consumption levels and the number of vehicle operation hours.”
The new module enables the company to make the most of the data (including location, status and driving route) transmitted via GPS by the tachograph on-board each vehicle. It does this by converting the data into vital information to improve results and daily operations, thereby maximising the company’s ability to keep transport movements on schedule, effectively plot the most efficient driving routes or even suggest more useful alternative driving routes.
As one of the latest developments of Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe geared specifically to its customers in Spain and Portugal, the traffic module has been translated into both Spanish and Portuguese. The module enables transportation companies to register driver and/or vehicle driving times, rest times, availability and working times, fuel consumption data and driving behaviour. This makes it possible to reduce fuel consumption while the vehicle is moving and during excessively long stationary periods, to obtain visual information on the driving behaviour of each driver, and to generate real-time progress updates.
The option of integrating the module with the management solution used at Transportes Lara S.A. has already been scheduled and will be implemented in such a way as to link the effectiveness of transport movements and drivers to financial remuneration, discounts, bonuses, etc. As a result, it integrates the driver information (e.g. expenses, refuellings, tolls, etc.) transmitted by the on-board equipment into the company’s own management solution.
